Lunch is a big part of life in France and in Paris it is no less important. Restaurants begin preparing for the lunch crowd early and the cafe tables are all laid ready with silverware, glasses and plates in anticipation.
The 'plat de jour' is usually the best value and often includes coffee and desert.
As soon as the clock strikes 12 everything stops and people start streaming to their favourite restaurant, and by 12.15 many only have a table or two free.
